Qualified help for you
The treatment from start to finish involves about an hour long visit to the laser centre.
For the actual surgery patients lay on a comfortable couch under the laser microscope. This is both a relaxing and secure position. No injections are necessary. The eye is anaesthetised with drops, to ensure a painless experience. The eyelids are gently held open with a lid clamp.
Patients watch a flashing light while the laser precisely vapourises away microscopic layers of tissue to correct the focus. Actual laser surgery time is, in most cases, less than 60 seconds, although patients are in the surgery suite for about 15 minutes.
Following the procedure a clear shield is placed over the eye to protect it. While the treatment itself is painless, the eye may become gritty or irritable about a half of an hour later as the anaesthetic wears off. It is advisable for you to go home and rest. It would also be a good idea to have another person with you, as you must not drive.
